Coronavirus, Students and our economy
The Coronavirus pandemic is something nobody could predict and prepare for. Even though the leading scientists warned of an imminent outbreak that would most likely be respiratory. No one could have seen it coming. The government have reacted to what I believe the best of their ability. I hope you appreciate I don't give them much credit. But forgetting about all that twaddle lets think of our future. Things are starting to get back to normal. These past few months have definitely caused some damage to businesses, some fatal, but I believe we will see a healthy bounce back over the next few year. But that does mean until then life might be quite tricky for recent graduates and for those affected by job losses.
As a student I felt the University that I attend, University of the Arts London, should take the measures to either pause the study year or refund the amount applicable. As they are a business I believe they should treat their customers fairly. They seem to have some disagreements and prefer money.
But then I had a thought. The government should be able to see the damage that this is causing and take action. Wiping student debt would always be welcome but realistically they should consider absolving the debt accrued over this period of pandemic. To give those fledglings coming out of the safety wing of university a chance. Further education is an opportunity to participate in a quest to enlarge the global storehouse of all human understandings and the governement should give the future generation a chance!
